Biography

Katie first picked up the cello at the age of seven as part of her school string orchestra program in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It became obvious that she had a love of music, so she began private cello lessons before the end of elementary school. Her first public performance took place at the age of ten.
Katie was a member of numerous orchestras outside of school, including audition-based county and district groups. As a member of the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County, she toured Germany and Austria during the summer of 2002. Going into her undergraduate career at The College of New Jersey, Katie decided to take a different path and become an elementary school math teacher. After just one month, she realized how much she would miss playing the cello, and switched majors to Elementary Education and Music. At this time, Katie began her studies under David Szepessy, a student of Janos Starker.
Considered by the college to be a non-music major, Katie went above and beyond the course requirements. She gave a successful senior recital and organized several chamber music recitals, all while graduating summa cum laude. In addition, she was recognized for numerous academic honors and awards for teaching and featured as the string representative for an incoming music students honor recital.
After graduating from her Bachelors program, Katie was accepted to Penn State University for her Masters in Cello Performance. At Penn State, Katie was able to further her playing career in the studio of Kim Cook, a student of Aldo Parisot. During this time, she was a member of the Altoona Symphony, a professional orchestra located near the university. As an active chamber musician, solo performer, and member of the Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras, Katie gave many performances at Penn State, demonstrating her technical abilities in chamber and solo works alike.
Katie currently resides in Levittown, PA with her husband and their three dogs. She now focuses on performing at weddings and private events as a soloist or with chamber music groups in Philadelphia, Newtown, Langhorne, Yardley, Bensalem, Levittown, and Richboro and surrounding areas in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
